Is your Brain Making you Fat?

The pants that once fit perfectly now sit a bit lower and create a squeeze or the appearance of a muffin top in a tight shirt.

You might think, what is happening, my pants are tight, what did I eat, or what am I not doing that I used to do to create this change. That is the standard thought. What has changed? And what can I do about it?

Who is in charge?

Your Brain is one of the biggest obstacles to losing or gaining weight. How you eat, when you eat, and your thoughts about food influence your weight.

The mind rules over your body. Until the body rebels, then it’s too late. Or maybe not.

What I teach is not about weight. It’s about how you feel. I work with so many people who are gaining weight or losing weight has been the focus of their health regime for over ten years or more.

What we focus on sometimes — is the wrong thing.

For someone with back pain or scoliosis, they might suggest losing weight will help your spine. But what they need to talk about is what kind of weight you need to lose? Certainly not muscle weight. That drives your metabolism and will help you recover from sickness and help you get out of a chair when you are 90. So don’t lose muscle weight, especially if you want a strong spine.

Also, specific diets can affect bone density; the more robust your bones are, the less likely you will break a hip that makes you fall when you become frail and brittle.

Your Brain Hates Dieting!

There are many reasons, the one we are going to mention today is:

Brain cells actively prevent the body from burning fat when food is scarce. So it turns on your body fat preservation mode. A group of neurons in the brain coordinate appetite and energy expenditure and can turn a switch on and off to burn extra calories.

Yes, some diets can trick the Brain, but eventually, this approach will reach a plateau and not work the next time you try it.

The Brain does not like fasting or fasting diets.

The Brain needs fuel, or it will take it from somewhere else, usually, the skin first, which ages you accelerated.
